Touchscreens are great while you’re on the move but tend to get in the way when you’re at home and have a mouse and keyboard at hand. Disabling the touchscreen allows you to use your device like a PC without the accidental actions caused by clumsy hands. If you want to disable the touchscreen in Windows 10, here’s how.

Disable the touchscreen in Windows 10
Disabling the touchscreen is pretty quick and easily reversible.

1. Navigate to Control Panel. Hardware and Sound, Device Manager.
2. Find ‘Human Interface Devices and then HID compliant touch screen.
3. Right click it and select Disable. You will see a warning telling you that disabling the device will stop it functioning. Just click Yes.

Your touchscreen should now stop working immediately.

Enable the touchscreen in Windows 10
To enable, or re-enable the touchscreen in Windows 10, simply reverse the above actions.

1. Navigate to Control Panel. Hardware and Sound, Device Manager.
2. Find ‘Human Interface Devices and then HID compliant touch screen.
3. Right click it and select Enable.

The touchscreen should begin working immediately, no reboot required.

You can also modify Windows 10 tablet mode to disable the touchscreen.

1. Navigate to Settings, System and Tablet mode.
2. Switch ‘Make Windows more touch-friendly when using your device as a tablet’ off.
3. Toggle ‘When this device automatically switches tablet mode on or off’ to ‘Don’t ask me and don’t switch’.

To enable touchscreen, just switch ‘Make Windows more touch-friendly when using your device as a tablet’ on and ‘When this device automatically switches tablet mode on or off’ to ‘Always ask’ or ‘don’t ask me and always switch’, whichever you prefer.
