How To

Overwatch Hero Guide Symmetra

Symmetra is one of the easier heroes to pick up and start playing in Overwatch, but truly mastering her can be much more of a challenge. Knowing where to place your teleporter and turrets in each battle is what is going to make you really excel with this hero. Although she is a support hero, I don't recommend using her if she's going to be the only support on your team. She's the only one who doesn't provide any direct healing to her team. So what can she do that makes her a support exactly? Let's go over that now.

Photon Projector
The main fire of Symmetra's gun is a beam projection that is only useful at very extreme close ranges. However, when you use it you only have to be looking in your targets general direction for it to hit them and the longer you hit them with it the stronger the beam will become. A fully charged Symmetra beam will deal four times the damage of a beam that just started hitting them. If the enemy gets out of range or gets out of your line of sight for even just a moment though, it will break the beam and you'll have to start over on charging it on a target. The secondary fire of this gun is a large slow moving orb that will hit anything in it's path. The secondary fire will pass through barriers in it's path and continue to damage targets behind the barrier.

Sentry Turret
These are really where Symmetra shines, she can throw out six of these little turrets around the map. The wonderful thing about these turrets is you can see when they are firing, so you can place them all over the map at strategic points, and you can tell your team when they are firing at the enemy so you can use them to prevent the enemy from ever sneaking up on your team. On top of this, the damage from each individual turret will stack with other turrets, so you can place a few at the key choke points to help defend them.

Photon Shield
This is the only real direct support that Symmetra is able the offer, and it comes in the form of increasing a players health pool by giving them an extra 25 in the form of a shield, it isn't much, but it's something. It has a very low cool down time so it's easy to place this on everyone in your team and replace them whenever needed.

Teleporter
Symmetra's ultimate is that she will place a teleport down that will link to the spawn room. While the teleport remains active anyone on your team who dies can walk into it to be brought directly back into the fight, but if the enemy team finds where you placed the teleport they can destroy it to break the link, so place it close to where the fighting is taking place, but enough out of the way so that the enemy has trouble finding it.
