How To

Overwatch Progression System Guide

Every match you play in Overwatch will contribute experience points towards you leveling up, but what exactly do you gain from each of these levels other than bragging rights? Well, here's what you can earn.

Step 1)Loot boxes.
Each time you level up you will earn one loot box to open. Each box contains four rewards that can range from common to legendary unlocks for Overwatch Heroes.

Step 2)Character Icons and portrait borders
When you level up high enough you can unlock a border around your portrait while you are in hero select, along with a star under your name for every 100 levels you have earned. Once you hit level 100 you will start over at 1, but with that star there to show your achievement.

Step 3)The leveling up system is by account, not for each individual hero.
This encourages you to play multiple heroes often, as you will be leveling up your own profile, not your skill level with that specific hero.

So basically, free loot, better looking portrait, and you can play multiple heroes to contribute to your leveling up as well. Once you have reached the level of 25 you will unlock competitive play as well.
