USB ports often have generic drivers provided by the OS maker to allow for basic operations to take place such as peripheral connections and USB storage devices but often times basic functionality isn't what we're looking for. Regardless of basic functionality some systems require a driver installation prior to allow for basic operation to take place. This is the case with USB3.0 ports powered by add-on controllers or when a new controller was made to operate on a new platform. This tutorial will show you how to go about solving an issue with your USB controller or SM Bus controller.
The issue can be averted either by downloading the latest USB host controller or platform chipset drivers or both. Whether you're on an Intel or an AMD platform the steps are the same. If you're using a motherboard that is powered by a third party controller like Etron or NEC then you will be able to source the necessary drivers from your motherboard's support site.

- ■Open your web browser and type downloadcenter.intel.com/product/1145/Intel-Chipset-Software-Installation-Utility (for your chipset)

into the address bar and hit enter.
If you're on an AMD platform, type http://support.amd.com/en-us/download into the address bar and hit enter.
■Locate the latest drivers.

■Download and save the file to a suitable destination on your drive.

Note: For Intel platforms you will need to agree to the agreement prior to downloading.
■Locate the executable on your system, right click and Run as Administrator.
■The installation should take place immediately.
■For AMD you will need to extract the contents of your installer onto a location before automated installation takes place. Click on Install.
and make sure that AMD SMBus Driver and AMD USB Filter driver are chosen.
■Click on Install.
■Click on Finish to close the installation window and agree to restart your system once prompted to allow the drivers to take effect.
You have successfully installed USB drivers to enable support for the native USB controller onboard your system.
