At the heart of every multimedia experience lies the need for crystal clear audio. Use of a generic driver for your soundboard or lack thereof can often lead to an unpleasant computing/multimedia experience simply because the OS failed to communicate with the audio device as intended and delivered an output that was below par or none at all. This tutorial will show you how to download and install drivers for your Realtek Audio device.

■Open your web browser and type http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/Default.aspx into the address bar and hit enter.

Note: Irrespective of which codec you have on your system, be it ALC800 series or the latest ALC1150, the latest drivers offered by Realtek support legacy audio chips by Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

■The latest drivers can be found listed under the linked page under Hot Downloads.

Note: If your audio codec does not support high definition audio, i.e; it's prior to ALC800 series then you should go through AC'97 Audio Codecs.
