Fix Windows 10 Anniversary Update installation after accidental restart
The first thing to do is not panic. While you may need to do a little work, it isn’t the end of the world. Just follow these simple steps.

1. Reboot your computer normally after the restart.
2. Navigate to Settings and Update & security.
3. Click ‘Check for updates’ and allow the process to complete.
4. The Windows 10 Anniversary Update should proceed as normal.

If it doesn’t:

1. Navigate to ‘C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download’.
2. Delete the contents of the folder. Reboot into Safe Mode if you cannot delete it.
3. Reboot your computer.
4. Navigate to Settings, Update and security.
5. Select ‘Check for updates’ and run the process again.

The update files are stored in the file above and may have been corrupted during that accidental restart. By deleting them, you essentially force the entire process to begin afresh. This will involve more downloading and waiting but the update should now proceed normally.
