Even though you may have a fully operational and activated Windows 10 system, you may find after performing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update that your computer is no longer activated. This happened to me when I performed a client install last week and I had to reactivate it. If you need to fix Windows 10 Anniversary Update activation problems, here’s what to do.

Fix Windows 10 Anniversary Update activation problems
The process we need to complete is exactly the same as if you were trying to activate a vanilla Windows 10 install.

1. Navigate to Settings and Update & security.
2. Select Activation.
3. Add your Microsoft account details and sign in or log in using your local account.
4. Let the activation process complete.

This should be enough for most people to activate their copy of Windows 10. You should now see a message saying ‘Windows is activated with a digital license…’ in the Activation window. If it didn’t work, try rebooting a couple of times over the next couple of hours. Sometimes Microsoft’s authentication servers are slow to pick up.

Otherwise, try this:

1. Navigate to Settings and Update & security.
2. Select Activation.
3. Select Troubleshoot.
4. Select ‘I changed the hardware on this device recently’.
5. Sign in to your Microsoft account, select the computer you’re using and select Activate.

This final step should be enough to get your computer activated while using the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
