Civilization 6: India Guide

As always, India is led by Gandhi. His unique ability, 'Satyagraha', will provide a Faith boost for each civilization you have met that has founded a religion and with whom you are not at war. lso, other civilizations suffer additional happiness penalties for warring against Gandhi. This means that for once in the civilization games, Gandhi may actually play like Gandhi rather than somehow seeming to be the most warlike nation in any Civ game when played by the AI.

India receives the unique ability 'Dharma'. You will receive the benefits of all Follower beliefs of Religions present in your cities, not just the one you founded. This means you will actually benefit from allowing other religions to spread into your own cities, but you'll probably want to make sure your founded religion is still the dominant one.

Unique Building

India's unique building is the Stepwell, which will both help it's cities grow faster, but also help them to gather faith. It provides 1 housing and 1 food. If it is placed adjacent to a farm, it will Provide an additional +1 and provide +1 faith if adjacent to a Holy Site.

Unique Unit

India's unique unit is the Varu, a war elephant unit. It reduces the combat strength of adjacent enemy units by 5, with the penalties being cumulative for enemies adjacent to multiple Varu. Surrounding an enemy unit was multiple Varu before you attack can be absolutely devastating because of this.

With these bonuses, you should be able to expand peacefully and spread your religion. Focus on dealing with warmongers while befriending those who have founded their own religions to benefit from their religious bonuses as well as your own.
