How To

Great Person Guide For Civilization VI

Great people can be what make or break your game in Civilization 6, and learning how to utilize them well is going to be very important. So what are Great people and what do they do?

Step 1)What is a great person

A great person is a special unit that every civilization is trying to recruit. The units are specific to whatever era they are recruited in, and once one is recruited by another civilization it is no longer available to anyone else until the next era. Each great person is unique in that they have their own special bonuses that they will provide. For a full list of every great person, check out this reddit thread here where it outlines them all pretty nicely.

Step 2)How to use great people.

Each great person is truly unique and can be used differently. For example, a great general can be linked to one of your units and provide an aura bonus to other units around them, each aura bonus unique to the general involved, but the same general can be used up to provide a one time bonus. For a great write or artist, that's a great work that will provide culture and tourism, for a great scientist it'll be something that is going to advance your technology.

Step 3)How do you get great people?

Earning great people is a race with other civilizations, and to win it you're going to be needing to generate great people points. There are a number of ways to do so, from wonders, to civic cards, to buildings and districts. Check the great people window often and it'll show how many points you have compared to other civilizations, and how many points you ultimately need.

Keep in mind, you don't need to claim every great person you get the points for, you can pass on them if they aren't going to give you bonuses you need and keep those points around to get the next one once another civilization claims the one you didn't want.
