Both the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 and Windows 10 make good partners for each other. Both seem reliable, feature-packed and better than any previous edition. If you find yourself wanting to restore Windows 10 on a Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, it is relatively easy to do. This tutorial will show you how.

Sometimes you just cannot avoid having to restore a computer to factory settings. Whether it is to undo some configuration changes you made, repair damage done by a virus, malware or errant program or just to refresh Windows so it works a bit faster, it is a task familiar to most seasoned Windows users. It isn’t as complicated as it might seem either.

Just be aware that a factory restore wipes all data from the laptop. Essentially, you start again from the very beginning like when you first opened the box. Back up any data you don’t want to lose before undertaking this process.

Laptops don’t usually come with installation media. They are provided with a disk partition that contains everything it needs to repair itself. While this does take up valuable disk space, it is also very convenient as we have a self-contained unit to repair.

Here’s how to restore Windows 10 on a Dell XPS 13 2-in-1:
1. Type ‘reset’ into the Cortana/Search Windows box and select ‘Reset this PC’.
2. Select Restart now under Advanced startup.
3. Select Troubleshoot when the next window appears.
4. Select Factory Image Restore and follow the on-screen instructions.

The restore wizard guides you through the process of restoring the laptop. The procedure takes a while and will occasionally need user input to complete. The process also involves a few reboots too, so don’t be worried if your device keeps restarting for no apparent reason.

Once complete, you should be able to boot into your Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 as normal and set it up just like you did when you first got it home from the store. The next order of business is to perform driver, BIOS and Windows updates to make sure you are beginning with the most stable of clean slates. Then you can install your security software and preferred apps.
