The smaller our laptops become while also getting more powerful, the harder it is to manage heat. The HP Spectre X360 is a powerful laptop with conventional i5 or i7 processor and RAM. Integrated graphics also generate heat. Keeping all of this under control is a challenge. Here is how to prevent overheating issues in the HP Spectre X360.

HP have acknowledged that the HP Spectre X360 does put out a lot of heat but it can be managed. In fact, they have created a webpage specifically for the HP Spectre X360 and heat management. It is this that I use for inspiration for this tutorial.

You will need a can of compressed air and ideally a laptop cooling pad.

There are two things you can do with the HP Spectre X360 to stop it heating up so much. Using it less or in different ways is not an option as it defeats the object of having a premium laptop.

Therefore you must keep the vents clear of dust and optionally, use a laptop cooling pad.

1. Turn off the laptop completely and remove from the mains. The laptop needs to be completely powered down to avoid the potential for damage.
2. Spray the compressed air into all vents around the laptop. There are vents on the bottom, rear and sides of the laptop. Point the hose from the can into each and move it across the vent.

3. Wipe away any dust or dirt blown out by the can of air. Removing as much as possible prevents it being drawn back into each vent.
4. Download and install HP CoolSense. This monitors hardware and manages temperature. If your HP Spectre X360 doesn’t already have it, install it.

Perform these steps regularly to ensure the laptop gets the cooling it needs to perform.

You can also buy laptop cooling pads that use fans to blow cold air into laptop vents. If your HP Spectre X360 continues to run hot, it might be worth investing in one.
