The Intel Management Engine Interface, commonly known as the IMEI, is a built-in driver that enables communication between the IME firmware and the operating system of the device. The drivers activate certain features on the motherboard and allow the hardware to function properly. However, sometimes, the drivers fail to perform their tasks, rendering the computer almost unusable.
Below you will find four solutions that you can implement to fix this problem.
Update the drivers
The drivers for the Intel management engine interface could be the reason why the software is acting up. It could either be that the drivers are outdated or that the recently updated drivers are malfunctioning.
Step 1: On the search icon on your taskbar, type Device Manager and click on it
Step 2: Expand the system devices option
Step 3: Find the Intel Management Engine Interface option and click on it, and a pop-up window will appear
Step 4: Under the driver tab, click on update driver software and be patient as it updates. After it’s done, close the window and restart the computer
Manually Uninstall and Reinstall Drivers
Step 1: On the taskbar, type device manager and look for the Intel Management Engine Interface under the system devices option
Step 2: Under the driver tab, an option to uninstall device will be presented to you. Click on it and wait for the uninstall to complete
Step 3: After its done, visit your manufacturer’s official website and download the Intel drivers
Step 4: Run the executable files and follow the instructions given and finally, restart your device
Update Windows 10
Another problem could be that your device hasn’t been updated for a while and therefore, the older versions of the drivers aren’t functioning properly
Step 1: Open settings on your computer
Step 2: Click on the Update And Security option
Step 3: If your device was not recently updated, an update patch will be available under the windows update tab. Apply these updates
Step 4: Reboot your device
This sometimes doesn’t work, and the system error message still appears after the reboot. What you need to do is remove the updates that are causing the problem.
Step 1: Follow the instructions above and head on to the windows update tab
Step 2: Click on the View installed updates history and uninstall updates from your device. Reboot and see if the error message has been sorted out
Scan the Computer
Scanning allows you to see all the drivers that are malfunctioning, and you should be able to fix them. Although this process takes some time, it is, in most cases, the better option.
Step 1: Right click on the Windows icon on the taskbar
Step 2: A menu will appear. Click on command prompt (Admin)/windows PowerShell (Admin) so as to access the command prompt
Step 3: Type scf/scannow which prompts for a full system scan which will take a while. The scan will detect the faulty drivers and fix them.
Step 4: After it’s done, restart the computer
