Stardew Valley is a complete life building game which means that you can start your own family as well. For this Stardew Valley gives you 12 people to date and choose from. This is incredibly important as they all have their unique likes and dislikes, their unique events and their benefits. Your spouse can be either male or female; it does not matter what your gender you are. There are a certain set of steps that you need to take in order to get married.

1. The first thing that you need to do is decide who to date. You will need to figure out what their likes and dislikes are and give them gifts according to that. If you look in the Hearts tab of the game, you can see that the people that you can date only have 8 hearts and their 2 other hearts have been grayed out. This means that you will unlock those two hearts once you start dating. To complete the first step you need to give them gifts until you reach eight hearts.
2. The second step is only possible after you have reached max hearts with the person you want to date. What you need to do then is to get a Bouquet from Pierre’s general store. Once you give the person that Bouquet you two will start dating.
3. After having started dating them, you need to give them enough gifts until you have 10 hearts with them. To do this you can either give them gifts or you can keep give them Bouquets until their hearts reach max level.
4. The final step is one of the toughest as it has a lot of prerequisites. The first thing you need is a house that has been already upgraded once. You will also need to have rebuilt the bridge that extends the beach into the coral area. For that you need 300 wood. After you have done all this, you need to wait until it rains because on rainy days you can find the old Mariner in that part of the beach and he will sell you a Mermaid Pendant for 5000 gold.
After you purchase that you can give it to the person you are dating and they will start planning the wedding. You do not need to do anything after that as your fiancée will plan the wedding and it will take place 3 days after you give them the Pendant. If there is a festival in the way then the marriage will take place after the festival.
Life after marriage does not mean that you can ignore your spouse. You will still need to spend time with them, give them gifts and talk to them. If you don’t then they can file for divorce and you might find yourself single once again.
Even though marriage is a lot like real life in Stardew Valley it is definitely worth it as your spouses will help you around the farm, cook food for you and even go hunting for monsters and give you the loot that they get.
