Strange Modem problem

Hi all!

I have a strange problem with a USR winmodem. If I try to connect, the
modem doesnt find a tone on the phone line, but if I pick up the phone
to have a tone on the line and try to connect with the modem, all works.

Now, to connect, I have to pick up the phone off the base,
unplug the part that I speak in to avoid foreign noise and click connect!

Is my modem or my config that is wrong???

I know, a winmodem is not the best thing to have and I will chane it soon,
but for now, it is all that I have.

Did you try to disable "wait for dialtone"?

No. And I will give it a try.

But I don't think that this will help. It is like my system think my modem
is Off Hook, so when I click to connect, it dont send the OH signal and
try to connect anyway.

Maybe I don't have the right BIOS config or motherboard setting, I dont
know.

If I put a real modem, everithing is right.
