I would like to use a liteon atx server power supply which does not have the 2x2 square 12v aux power connector on it for the p4 mobo.
Does anyone have any experience using a readily available $3 patch cable which connects to 12v rectangular 4 pin lead and output 12v 2x2 connector to the aux on p4 mobo?
Any advise on safety or stability problems appreciated

Shouldn't be any problem. One generic power supply I used had one attached to a standard 4 pin lead. Several boards use standard plugs in place of the square connector so customers don't have to change power supplies.

12v is 12v, using an adapter, it's still 12v.
