Great today i just got my red ring of death from my 360 this is fun. I'am under warranty right now, but it made me think, could i make a custom cooling system for the 360. Like would it be possible for me to get a custom case and put great heat sinks on it, and add more fans.
You'd likely have to use an alternate power source for the fans - but if you are confident theres no real reason you couldn't do a casemod with lets say.. a modified AT case (similar to the HTPC flat look)
I'd wait until your warranty is out though and if/when it fails again before you consider dismantling your xbox - but no reason you couldn't at least start planning for sure.
Wait until your warranty has expired entirely; unfortunately, the RROD is not the only thing your console is likely to die from. Other issues can be caused by a dying scalar unit or DVD drive among many other cheap components Microsoft throws into the console.
One of the main causes of RROD is the heat causing the solder on the graphics chip weakening and it slipping out of place. They clamp it down when you send it back to them.
Send it back if it's under warranty, once it's out of warranty you're free to do whatever mods you want... just be cautious as certain hardware mods can cause your console to get perma-banned from Xbox Live
Also, there was a guy I read about that modded his 360 into a laptop with very high end cooling. It looked really cool, you might want to look into that.

That was Ben Heck, and he does tons of mods like the one you mentioned.
Yeah, it must have been I don't really remember who it was. It looked really cool. Just use a wireless controller and you can play pretty much anywhere. I think he posted how he did it right? At least, that's what I heard.

Yeah, he has guides on his website for DIYers; he also did a PS3 laptop sort of like the Xbox one, but it came with a working keyboard as well.
