recently got a hp visualize c180 and sinced it has a 15-pin vga connector i
promptly hooked it up to a regular monitor. Was i surprised! did'nt work,
just got some crazy lines all over the screen. What kind of monitor or
adapter do i need to get this to work with a regular monitor

You need sync on green support. See the list at
