I have recently installed XP Pro, every time I start up I am asked to install
VIA bus master IDE drivers. What are these and where can I find them, they
do not seem to be on any of my disks.

VIA is a chipset maker (as is SiS and Intel) and the IDE bus
is the method used to connect the hard drive and optical
drive to the motherboard.
The motherboard needs drivers (software) and that should be
available from the motherboard manufacturer (or the computer
maker). To find out what is inside your box, get EVEREST
free from www.lavalys.com .
It will scan your computer and report details such as
motherboard (mobo)make/model and serial number. It will
also show details of the BIOS and where to get updates.

You can usually download drivers from the manufacturers
website.

I suspect you did a clean install of XP Pro after formatting
the hard drive. This wiped out the factory installed
drivers and the particular mobo does not have XP certified
drivers on the XP CD.

Hi;

You can go here (http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&Type=1) then
pick XP from the list and follow the steps for downloading. I think the
Chipset/platform (Hyperion 4.53) set may be your best bet. Be sure to read
the instructions for installing.
