"1. In folder BIN find two files, CryRenderD3D9.dll and CryRenderD3D10.dll
2. Switch their names
3. Then create a shortcut to the file Crysis.exe
4. Go to the shortcut's properties and add -DX10 (write without quotes) at the end of the target line
5. Or, if paragraph 4 failed, then write DX10
6. Also possible option without space, it all depends on the version

this is gold yet none of you have talked about it except one guy in Gametrailers, forget about those config files, this enables you to play crysis in directx9 mode while keeping all the features of directx 10 in VISTA, yes i didn't used it in XP but vista64, the difference is of course performance. this shows that directx10 is so **** up somehow or that cryteck did something very wrong. i can gain between 15% to 30% depending on the scene with NO DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY ! i have some pics for you to see:
Here is what i found out as well, if you activate AAx2 in directx9 mode, it will take a huge hit, enough to make it equal to directx10 X2aa. interesting ? why would that happen exactly? some educated thought ?
Neverthless, this shows that something is seriously **** up between crytech and microsoft, and i'm really disapointed because i could have played this game way better, specialy by the end when it was sometimes freaking un playable in that cruiser. this is the driving force why i did all this research, i thought that a 4870 SHOULD run this game at ease, this card is at least twice powerful as a ps3 if not three times in some cases, all the other games prove that, with so much ram and quad overclocked to 3ghz it failed to achieve even 25 fps in many segments of the game (all very high), crytech should review its code and i bet that far cry 2 will run much much better. too bad i found oout about directx9 mode way too late.

on another note, if you play Call of duty 4 on pc, enable DUAL GPU, it will improve your FPS even you have one card , see that for yourself. yeah one of those weird things again.
Yeah I get like 10 more fps in dx9 than in dx10 on my 9600GT with the latest 177.83 drivers. I just use high settings and the natural mod and dx9 looks just as good as very high and is playable though the whole game even the ice level!
AA sucks in crysis anyway because the foliage is still jagged, just use the in game edgeaa.

Threatdown , unlike you , this gain in performance was using directx9 with the EXACT same quality of directx10 , that is ALL VERY HIGH, see the key words here are EXACT and VERY HIGH. i'm using vista 64, no MOD is used, no config file , it's the original configuration. give it a try, and you'll gain another great boot in performance.
thogrom, what people are saying is what threatdown just mentioned, this is what i read in most forums, i never ever read that in any forum or article until two days ago... to gain performance in crysis, it usually deploys some kind of mod or a custom config file.
If you don't care , don't post, how logic is that ? Many people will very interested in this , since it will give a 20% as average which none of the modes do even with a slighly lower quality in some areas.
The 4870X2 is able to beat the 9800GTX+ SLI pair at 1920x1200, and 9800GTX+ SLI is undeniably faster than a 9800GX2 pair.
It would help if the GX2 was even listed in the comparision chart. When ther 4870 came out, HardOCP compared it against everything else in Crysis. The GX2 won, beating the 280 by 5 frames. I'll post the link to the review later.

I read that in a review and haven't found an explanation yet. For me this works in Vista and not XP. I get about a 10FPS boost instantly when I switch it over.
P.S. DX10 is sort of a scam. DX10.1 is the real deal. There isn't really a point to play in DX10 unless you have to.
