I currently have a ATI RADEON 9000 PRO 64MB Graphic Card, I plan on buying the rest of my parts within the next month and building a new computer based on a Asus P4PE motherboard (was thinking of going with the Intel 845GE but decided on going with Asus and the PE chipset instead). It will be a digital audio workstation but also used for everyday tasks such as using the internet, watching DVD's, and programming.
Below are the components I have in mind (sorry for the all caps I just cut and pasted the product description from newegg):
2 WESTERN DIGITAL "SPECIAL EDITION" 80GB 7200RPM EIDE HARD DRIVE'S
Antec SX835II Case
2 KINGSTON KVR333X64C25/512 PC 2700 DDR RAM (1024 MB total), my question is what is unbuffered RAM?
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.4BGHz 512K 533MHz CPU Northwood P478
Sound Card: M-Audio (either the Audiophile Series or a Delta Series)
Monitor: Would like to get a LCD - Samsung Syncmaster 152T is one option.
I'd like to get a DVD Burner (looking at the new Sony one) as well as a second DVD Drive. Also will need to add a floppy drive.
I'm pretty sure that all of these components are all compatible and should work well, if anyone knows of any conflicts or any comments please let me know.
I have had nothing but problems with this mobo since I got it. There are cold boot issues and random restarts with certain systems. I would think about this one a little more, check out some of the posts from the last week by me and inetguy. We are both havin problems with the P4PE as far as stability. Good Luck!
If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.
I didn't mention this before because I couldn't remember for sure. And I can't find where I read it. But I think there was a problem running the Radeon 9700Pro on some P4 boards. I know that's real general but I can't find where I read the info to see what the facts are.
The solution may be obvious, but I can't see it for the smoke coming off my processor.
I was able to fix my problem. Civ had mentioned that I needed to download the INF driver for the chipset from Intel. It worked! I am not sure why this driver was not included in the software that came with the board or at the Asus web site but what does it matter if it works. My P4PE is now rock solid.
