A friend of mine just picked up an Asus A7N8X Deluxe and an AMD XP 1700 (Model# AXDA1700DLT3C), we were wondering if it is necessary to have to unlock the processor in order to overclock it. We want to run it at 200mhz (400fsb) with multipliers varying from 8-10 depending on what we're doing, I was just curious if anyone has had any experience with the board and cpu because we really don't want to have to remove the heatsink to have to make any changes.
I know I had read somewhere in toms reviews about the boards capabilities, but I can't seem to find my answer anymore, I would greatly appreciate your help!
Thanks,
- Ryan
(BTW, I'm sorry if this question has already been asked, I haven't been able to use the search function and the boards load really slow here at my network.)
I am sorry my friend, but regardless of how low you drag the multiplier down, I don't think you will be successful in pushing an AMD XP 1700 up to 400 fsb. They (at stock) run at 266 FSB. Most people (with high quality cooling) are having a hard enough time pushing an XP 2600, 2700 or 2800 up to 400 mHz FSB, which doesnt seem all that hard, considering those cpus run at 333 FSB. Good luck with your project, please post your results!
The site states they ran the XP at 1.65v: 199.94 x 9.5 (1899.45mhz), and assuming that I haven't seem anyone say anything against the 400 fsb, I was assuming it was possible, unless that site is just a fraud (hey, we all know experience comes first hand.) It sounded like a good idea, since he also has dual Corsair 256mb PC3200 ram sticks and matching the DDR400 just seemed perfect.
Anyway, he picked up the processor to get his system going until the XP 2800 comes down in price, then he's going to jump on that, but for now he wants to get as much out of the XP 1700 as he can for now.
Thanks for your info and help, I think we just might keep do the norm. 166 and not even mess with the multiplier.
