Have you tried turning off the grain filter in the graphics options within the game?

There is a grainy effect of the background that was put there intentionally. I'm not entirely sure why. That was the first game I played on my new HDTV as well and I thought the TV was possibly bad at first too, but no, its the game. I don't really mind the grain effect, but I do wonder why they put it in.

I think its meant to make the game have a "film effect" from the review I read!! I wasn't too bothered by it (especially since it can be turned off in the menus).

Odd that at first I didn't like the effect; but I soon turned it back on and came veyr much to like it. Not only does it hide the lack of AA to a degree, but does help with that "old sci-fi" feel.

Only place I don't like it is over the massive suns when you land on planets.

"Old sci-fi," thats rich. We miss the good old days where spaceships hit interstellar relays and traveled to various planetary systems in a matter of seconds don't we?

That grain effect and the pixellation bug had me convinced for a few days that the game was just very, very poorly ported to the PC.
