I recently bought 1080p lcd using a HDMI connection but when I
started playing Mass Effect the graphics were slightly fuzzy as if
there were something else interfering with the picture but there cant
be as the main menu is crystal clear, Is there maby a setting on my tv
that I need to change any help would be great thanks :)

There is a grainy effect of the background that was put there intentionally. I'm not entirely sure why. That was the first game I played on my new HDTV as well and I thought the TV was possibly bad at first too, but no, its the game. I don't really mind the grain effect, but I do wonder why they put it in.

I think its meant to make the game have a "film effect" from the review I read!! I wasn't too bothered by it (especially since it can be turned off in the menus).

Odd that at first I didn't like the effect; but I soon turned it back on and came veyr much to like it. Not only does it hide the lack of AA to a degree, but does help with that "old sci-fi" feel.

Only place I don't like it is over the massive suns when you land on planets.

"Old sci-fi," thats rich. We miss the good old days where spaceships hit interstellar relays and traveled to various planetary systems in a matter of seconds don't we?

That grain effect and the pixellation bug had me convinced for a few days that the game was just very, very poorly ported to the PC.
