I hope someone can help me stop pulling what little hair I have left out trying to ID a motherboard.
I have a Socket 5 board I would like to experiment and learn with and cannot find any information on it. Along one side are 2 markings; one says PBA 635352-105. The other marking is an orange strip that has a bar code and B00832110 on it. On the underside there is a marking that says PB 635353-003. The FIC code on the box has been no help and I think the BIOS is Phoenix and cannot find a Phoenix Utility for further drill down of information. I visited this site, http://www.groove-trax.de/jumper/#1 which seemed to have a gazzalian diagrams and went through each as best as I could. I hope someone out there is willing to take a few moments to help.
Thanks in advance.
Robert

Will the computer post? If so write down the the bios string in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

You may need to press 'pause' while booting to get it all. Press 'enter' to continue booting.
Now visit <A HREF="http://www.wimsbios.com" target="_new">http://www.wimsbios.com</A>. It is one of the best that I've found.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Rick,
Thanks for the input. I do not see any numbers in the lower left corner on bootup. What I do see at bootup are references to 2 different BIOS. The first is Paridise Bali32 Rev1.3 AL1 then the screen refreshes to show AMI 1.3.
I'll try the utilities at Wimbios but I think I've done that before. Stay tuned and thanks again.

The first screen is for the video. Here is one hit for drivers.<A HREF="http://www.msiunix.com/download/software/hardware/video/paridise_bali32" target="_new">http://www.msiunix.com/download/software/hardware/video/paridise_bali32</A>
Need a little more info for the rest though. What chipsets are on it?

I aint signing nothing!!!

The first one is from your video card I think. If this is an OEM only system like a Packard Bell, give it up, Packard Bell is history. Which leads me to a question, what BRAND of PC is it?

Hi Rick,
There are 2 large (about 1") PCI chips, one is intel pciset sb82437fx-66 the other says intel pciset sb82371fb. There are 2 82438fx chips on the board. Next to the Processor chip (which is tucked in the corner) are 2 rows of 4 rectangular boxes with no IDs on them at all. These are hollow and you can see connectors on their interior leading into the board. It's almost as if these items are meant to have something snap into them? There is a 9th one at the end of one row. Thanks.

Thanks Crash,
I'm not sure of the PC Brand but the sticker on the back of the box says Intel. This is the same sticker that has the FCC ID on it, which hasn't been much help. You're correct about the video card and I noticed it after I posted.

<A HREF="http://www.driverguide.com" target="_new">http://www.driverguide.com</A> has a link to the FCC database, at least you'll get manufacturer information that way.

I think I found the BIOS update. At Startup there is a BIOS message on top that reads 1.00.03.BR0. This appears to be a Intel® Advanced/ZE Motherboard based on what I've found and there is a update to 1.00.06. I sure hope that it allows a CD install because the current CMOS does not see it. Or maybe I have BIOS and CMOS mixed up. Stay tuned and thanks tons.

jlanka,
Thanks so much for your help, the BIOS is 1.00.03BR0 which led me to the board (INTEL Advanced ZE). I was able to upgrade the BIOS to 1.00.06 and find some documentation. The current processor is a 75mz and according to the docs, I can go up to a 200 and 128 memory. I'd like to use this board to learn with a little and maybe put Linux on it. Thanks again,
Robert

LOL, yes, it's that board. I refurbished about 150 systems with that board type, only mine were OEM for Gateway (BROT BIOS, where the T designates it's for Gateway, same board). I think the Gateway BIOS might actually be NEWER. And the board will support a Pentium 233 MMX if you set it up as a Pentium 100. This is because Intel used the same settings for 1.5x as for 3.5x (the CPU makes the change).
Now, depending on BIOS revision, with a 233MMX installed using the 100 setting, it will display either;
66MHz (the bus speed),
100MHz (the jumper setting),
200MHz (the highest CPU officially supported), or
233MHz (the propper speed).

No matter what it displays, the CPU will run 233MHz because the CPU knows better than BIOS what speed it's supposed to run. Because the MMX CPU uses 2.8v core, and the earlier Pentium a 3.3v core, it will be a little warm, I suggest an old (cheap) Celeron/K62/M3 type cooler.

But that would be my suggestion for a CPU, the P233MMX.
