I just bought another stick of ddr400 samsung mem for my a7n8x. Other than doubling my total ram size, I'm not seeing a significant increase in performance. So how do I know if dual ddr is working? Cpuid doesn't show it. I do have the dimms in the blue slots 2&3.

win2k pro
256meg samsung ddr400 x 2 in blue slots
radeon 9000 pro 128

you have a conflicting statement. Slots 1 & 2 are blue, slot 3 is black. If you have both sticks in blue slots you're in 1 & 2 which will not give you Dual channel. For 2 sticks you need to be in either 1 & 3 or 2 & 3 (both of which are 1 black and 1 blue slot).

Guess you haven't read any reviews or benchmarks yet. First off, DDR400 does not really run any faster than DDR333, and secondly, the small amount of memory performance gains that are achieved with Dual-DDR would be impossible to see without a benchmark program.

SiSoft Sandra!!!

SiSoft Sandra is a excellent "Benchmark" programm/tool
It will/can "Actually" measure your 'Memory Preformance"
And it's Available for Free! (the Std version - and thats all ya need!)

Check out <A HREF="http://www.sisoftware.net/" target="_new">http://www.sisoftware.net/</A>

Don't even Hesitate!
Just download the Standard Unicode version (save it),
and just install it using all defaults!
It installs like a dream and very quickly.
Start it up (no need to register!)
It's got lots of Icons when started up, find and run
Memory Bandwith Benchmark...
CPU BenchMark
File System Benchmark!!!

Some tests are only available on the Pro version,
but all the basics are available on the Free (Std) version

It'll give ya and idea how ya compare - objectivly!
I can't immagine anyoue "Not" runnin Si Samdra just to make sure their box is set up right! I ALways run the Free Sandra just to check things out!
(and then adjust acordingly)

Ya might not "Like" what ya see, but ya sure know what to work on!!!

It's too late now to check your memory bandwith "Before" ya added the extra memory, but ya could take it out, Bench "before", then install again and bench "after"!
It's a killer tool for knowin "What ya Really got"

I also discovered Sandra from this site but I noticed that the free version doens't come with the memory bandwidth tester. Once you use this utility you will be amazed by all the stuff you learn about your computer. I'm going to upgrade to the paid version because I too am curious about the memory. I don't know what the address is but if you do a search in google you should be able to find it on the first page. good luck.

I believe on that board the 2 blue slots are 2 and 3. He needs onlly put the two sticks one each in 1 and 3 or 2 and 3. When he starts up there will be a message displayed, if he has them in the correct slots.

Are you sure? I have the free version and the Memory Bandwidth benchmark works fine.

Hes mistaken, the free version does have the memory test.
