I am one of the many dot com unemployed. Been almost a year since the company got black listed for spam and everyone got laid off. Finding another good job is like winning the big jackpot. I can find all kinds of normal paying jobs that I must work at instead of sitting on my ass, but after gas, lunches, snacks and other things, I would make about 20 bucks more a week than I am now sitting on my butt waiting for my check from uncle sam.

I need more money but why kill myself for 20 bucks, why get up at 6am instead of noon for 20 bucks. why should I not find an under the table job to make more money [besides that I am too lazy to do that]

Should i feel guilty for doing nothing and getting paid? It is my money, unemployment is not like welfare, you only get so much money that you paid into the system. it is mine but I want or need more. But to break my back for 20 bucks more a week does not make sense.

I say enjoy your noon wake up as long as you can but plan for the eventual need to work. Then work hard only as long as you need to until you are back in the rocking chair. Companies do not like paying people to do nothing but sometimes you get lucky. I'm getting paid to write this :-) My job is (usually) great. I sit and do what I want until someting breaks and then I usually gotta do about 10 minutes of work. Some days they actually make us work the whole 8 hours and we think we are gonna die! Good jobs are always out there you just gotta find em.

Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire.

You shouldn't feel guilty about collecting the money that was yours originally, but if you plan to ever make more than that extra $20 then you'd better get off your ass.

I don't buy that you can't find a good job- get an idea, set up your own company.

Those that work hard get paid.

Yep, just like my job. Funny thing is they really do need us on site instead of on call. New supervisors have a really hard time with paying someone to do very little. Thing is if we are busy then the people who run the machines can't do their job and they sit around doing nothing and no work gets done by anybody. The less we need to do the better off they are. I always try to explain it as if we were like firemen. You want firemen available just in case but you don't go setting your house on fire to keep em busy.

I am proud that I have never drawn unemployment and hopefully never will. I worked my ass off for 8 years construction, 10-12 hour days in 120+ degree heat, 2 or 3 weeks straight was not uncommon. My back was so f***ed up it hurt constantly. Almost a year ago I took a major pay cut and started reading meters for the city. Now I walk 15 miles a day, the work is brutal some times with the hills and heat but at least I am only working for 8 hours and have some possibility of a future and advancement. I’m still dead tired some days but at leas my back doesn’t hurt anymore.

I guess I do kind of look down on people who take the free handouts. But then again I can’t really blame you. It’s not like your going to go to hell and me heaven for my good work ethic. Hell, you probably make more money sleeping till noon then I do getting up every day at 5. It’s just something that makes me feel better about my self.

Thx & Cya
