if you want to buy today you'd have to go with the Athlon because I don't think you can get the Gigabyte board yet.

You need to think what u want to achieve or what kind of work you do. if you are a overclock freak or a gamer and would like to have lots of cooling in your system then you go in for athlon otherwise go in for intel as intel is more stable and most aspects of overclocking can be achieved in Intel also as most motherboards have a asynchrous timing support. it is also favourable if you want to do lots of graphics work eg (photoshop etc)as intel works in tandem with these software makers for optimizations.
i think it will clear ur confusion somewhat

Intel is NOT more stable. People think intel is more stable cus theyre all used to using UNSTABLE VIA chipsets. Well the good news is that there are alternatives (nForce2 as he specified is NOT unstable, nor is the SiS745 chipset) today that can be used to make AMD systems just as stable as those using Intel mobos, chipsets and processors.

you are right that if you use the nforce2 chipset mobo then athlon is also stable but it still requires more cooling i myself burnt a cpu while overclocking it as i didnt have access to watercooling and i live in a very HOT PLACE and moreover u cant deny the fact that software companies are in pact with intel to maximise support for intel
i know it sucks but what to do.

Thanks for the input guys:)
I forgot to mention, i'll be using the pc mainly for gaming (GR, RavenShield, Unreal2 etc...)...no work will be done on the pc:)
And i don't want to overclock it....have no clue how. The gigabyte mobo is available @ R1095

Minion,
Hi, you said in your post that the gigabyte mobo is available "@ R1095". I'm very interested in getting this board but I don't know what R1095 is. Could you (or someone else) please tell me about this? Thanks
