rotten popup

There's a new popup that IE6 can't stop it seems, and it looks like it's
something M$ made. M$ security icons, colors, looks like it came from the
update page. Pops up without any address bar.

reason I mention this, I made the mistake of hitting the cancel button at the
bottom of the page instead of the close button at the top right.

Next thing I knew I had a bigger popup telling me it was now sending me xxxx
that was going to scan my hard drive for intruders.

I'll catch it next time and send all the info I can to M$ and tell them they
have a troll using their logos.

But thought I might post here case others see it and this can be a warning for
newbies, and a headsup to capture the info on the page for those that can do
it.

And newbies.. Don't smack links on pages you want to close. In this case I was
lucky. it only opened another link telling me my next hit would send xxx scan
on my drive.

It could have taken that cancel I pressed to send a scan to my drive.

It still may have, but I won't know till I scan my drive.

ie6 and XP pro sp3 do a good job of blocking popup's, but it doesn't block them
all.

There is no XP pro sp3, but I'm glad to hear it will a good job when it
comes out.

Eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
