Searching in windows 7

when i try to find a file using the windows 7 explorer with the partial name "----", of which there are 4 results when i use my old XP os, it gives me 19,791 results, all wrong & misses all the right answers. This is only the latest issue of wrong results clearly missed right answers.

I am indexed on my drives.

Can anyone give me some help or an alternative search method, Windows 95 seem to had it perfect imo, but that's Bill Gate : if it works, upgrade till it dosn't

You could open a Command Prompt window and type:

dir c:\*----* /s

I love that answer Mate, it works & it shows that 1982 software is far Superior to windows 7, but running 4 manual searches of my drives to only get the location isn't to practical. but it does work, Thx

Well, if you want to do it with 2009 software you could open up a PowerShell window and type:

get-childitem c:\ -recurse -include *----*
