This is the second time I recieved "shell notification fail" message on
bootup. Nothing seems amiss but I'm a little concerned about what may happen
in the future. Any idea what this means?

More about : shell notification fail

Most likely, a tray icon (displayed by the clock on the taskbar) failed to
load. Which one, I don't know. The program it belongs to may or may not be
running as expected. If the program (or portion of the program that manages
the tray functions) lists on the Start page of the System Configuration
Utility, you may be able to figure out which one is failing by checking
that list. Start> Run> MSCONFIG will bring up this tool.
