hey every one,

i keep having problems!

i re-installed windows and restored the settings and files of windows from the other hard drive. unexpectedly, when i installed windows, it was under a folder called "Windows.000". i thought nothing of it and just restored my old windows settings. so i have two windows folers, that one and "Windows". that is craziness! how can i find out which one is the real windows folder (i.e. which folder do all the main programs refer to)? and how the hell do i fix this problem?

because of it, there are error messages about files missing or, more importantly, when i try to run winxp upgrade setup the setup.exe does not work. there are other setup.exe files that dont seem to work. i wish windows wouldnt be so insane and out of control, but what can i do?

please help!

The problem is, you weren't paying attention! OK, when you re-installed windows, it ASK you what directory you wanted the new installation to go into, it chose Windows.000 by default. You should have changed that back to Windows. You had that opportunity. Yes, it says changing the directory is only recommended for advanced users. Yes, it warns you that putting the new installation in the Windows directory will overwrite the old files. All that is well and good.

You can boot off your CD to a command prompt with CD support and deleted the Windows.000 installation, then re-install windows, this time selecting the Windows directory, because overwriting the old files is what you WANT it to do.

I don't think he needs that info, it's obvioius if he installed windows a second time the new install went into Windows.000
