Microsoft Office Outlook

My eyes are cross-eyed trying to find a solution. I compile a message, send
it to the outbox and then click on send/receive and nothing happens. I then
have to reopen the email in outbox and 'forward' it. I notice that when
originally 'sent' the mail shows in the outbox in bold but not italics.
Please help this is most frustrating and time consuming trying to send emails.
