I want to get a gamepad & was wondering if I could get some advice when it comes to the:

1. Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 ~ http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ [...] 7&cl=us,en

Why would you want to take the worst part of a console and use it to replace the best part of PC gaming? If you play multiplier FPS... or RTS, or anything on PC with those controller, you'll get creamed by mouse wielding people, guaranteed. :p

+1, I wouldn't be that harsh, but my thoughts exactly. Anyway if you still insist, I recommend that you just get an Xbox 360 controller, since games for windows have complete support for it.

Madden NFL 2008
GRID
Lego Star Wars II
OverLord
Assasin's Creed
just to name a few that I use the Controller with. I would say OverLord you need a Controller.

Dagger; I know a few ppl who use controllers w/a PC for FPS & other games, & they do just fine; better than some using a mouse & kb.

I don't care for the feel & look of the XBox 360 controller. I've looked into the Chill Stream, it's ok, but I've heard of too many problems w/it. Anyway thanks to all for replying.

Pads on driving games = ftw

Unless you got the cash for a full steering wheel / pedal setup ofc

Try playing FIFA or Pro-Evo with a mouse!

Gamepads on the PC have their uses. I'd recommend the Xbox 360 controller. Comfortable (even for those with big hands like myself), sturdy, and has a long cable. Also works seamlessly with Windows (as one would hope!).

Don't want to hijack the thread too much but on the topic of steering wheel I was considering getting this

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5889 [...] oduct.html

its had some ok reviews and seems ok for the money, otherwise I play FPS, RPG and strategy games so don't really want a gamepad of any form.

Any other suggestions, main purpose is to play Grid which I don't have yet

Try playing Need for Speed or GTR with a keyboard then play them with a pad.

Hahaha...hahahahahaha! (Sorry; but this one cracked me up...)

Try playing GTR with a pad - then try a G25 and hide your controller so no one ever sees that you have done that! :lol:

Game pads do have their uses for the PC. They are a must for games like Madden 2008. I have played NFS Most Wanted with a keyboard and quite enjoyed it.

I don't see the point is using a pad for fps games.

Fair enough but a Wheel is kind of specialised were as game pad is a lot more versatile.

I like the xbox 360 controller. I have a wireless one and I use it when I want to game on my TV. I've played Far Cry 2 and HL2: Episode 2 with it, and was actually quite surprised about how well playing was with it. I played through Episode 2 with it, and really enjoyed it. I definitely have better control with a mouse, but I can see how some people could get really good with the dual analog sticks.

I totally agree. All the games you mentioned I play with a 360 controller (except lego star wars because I haven't played that game). I don't see how a kb/mouse is better with a racing game than a control pad.

In order of preference...

For racing;
Wheel
Pad
Keyboard

For FPS;
Mouse/keyboard
Pad

For sports games;
Pad
Keyboard (urgh!)

It's horses for courses, as the saying goes.

Everyone already has mouse/keyboard, so your next buy should be a decent pad, which then means you've got all your bases covered. But if you also play a lot of driving games, you might want to invest in a wheel. There's some half-decent ones for £50, but you can go for a G25 if you've got the cash.

These days, the only thing worth using a joystick for is flight sims. But if you play a lot of those, you'd probably get a proper flight yoke and do it properly (unless, like me, you're left handed...)
