I've always liked Hack n' Slash, and have greatly enjoyed playing through diablo 1 and 2, sacred, or more recently Titan Quest. I've also tested Hellgate London but didn't enjoy the game much so never really played it extensively. I've aquired Sacred 2 two weeks ago and so far I can say that apart from a few issues I'm quite satisfied with the game. Sure I still believe (or hope) diablo 3 will be better, but I don't believe we'll get that one for quite a few month yet.
I might try to do a more complete review post later on, or will answer specific questions if you have some, but just to give a quick summary here are my main impressions of the game after playing it up to gold difficulty with one char and through bronze with a few other classes.
Strong points :
- interesting and novel charachter building with the concept of variable recharche times for special power (named Combat Arts or CA for short) depending on skills, armor and caracs. This forces you to find a balance between upping basic skills, CA recharge time, CA power or miscallenous skill which makes for interesting charachter building choices.
- Huge and well detailed world with many different environments monsters and so on.
- Lots and lots of quests for all kind of players.
- Nice original mounts, the classes may seem original at first glance but are really just the same old ones with brand new names (except the temple guardian).
Weak points :
- Static World, little random content.
- Still a bit unstable
- Is said to be a bit empty in multiplayer but I only know that from heresay, as I only play solo.
- Unique objects might need a bit of a reworking, but that's a personal opinion (it's not as bad as in TQ imo, but still worse than d2 at its best)
- Npc behavior during escort quest is annoying, but you learn to avoid thoses
Current Opinion :
So far I'm really enjoying the game, trying out different classes and getting to the upper difficulty level. The charachter building is sufficiently complex that I'm still trying to work out what's a really good build and yet sufficiently simple that it's difficult to actually "break" a charchter.
