Which OS are you trying to install and what is the size of the partition you are trying to install on?

OK, so the partition is 400GB, but how much free space is there in the partition. Have you got 400GB of movies on there or something? MY advice - buy a new HDD, they are really cheap these days :)

If you don't need anything on the partition, try deleting it, creating a new one and then see if it will allow you to install...
