Hi,
for some reason the Battery, network and volume icons in the notification area are gone!!!
I have windows 7 Ultimate on a HP EliteBook 6930
I've tried to change the setting in gpmc.msc but no luck.
Any ideas?
Thanks

  1. Have you tried this:

Right-click the taskbar -> Properties -> in the "Notification Area" section, click the "Customize" button

...and then setting the appropriate icons to "Show icon and notifications"?

+1. Windows 7 hides most tray icons by default. You have to set it to "Show" for it to stay in view. But even when hidden, you can view all the tray icons by clicking on the small arrow just to the left of the tray.
  3. yeah guys...tried just about anything exept formating my laptop.
tried the GPO thing, the registry and the notification settings.
    it drives me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Do the icons show up in the dialogue box that lets you choose which notifications to display (see my previous post)? If so, what is the setting in the drop-down listbox beside them?
  5. No, they don't show in the dialog box.
  6. Well I'm stumped...
  7. I've seen something similar in XP a few times. Logging out and back in, or restarting the explorer.exe process, usually fixes the problem. No idea why this would happen or how to fix it on Win 7 though.
  8. Hi guys,
just wanted to let you know i found a solution in this link
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/106787-notification-area-system-icons.html
the last part worked for me, i downloaded the reg keys that says "Enable"
rebooted and it worked like a charm, the network, volume and battery icons reappeard.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
  9. Very interesting. I can't imagine why the registry method would work and the dialogue box wouldn't, since they're both changing the same registry keys.

    Thanks for the follow-up!
