if your not having any troubles with the motherboard, their's no real need to update the bios, but yes 1002 is the latest and most stable version.

"What kind of idiot are you?"
"I don't know, what kinds are there?"

I ran 1001G just fine and tried out 1002A. 1002A so far is just as stable for me as 1001G was and it does detect my hard drives quicker, by about a second or so.

ight well listen im getting really ppissed!....

updated to 1002 succesful with no problems...

and still cannot get my 2800+ to run @ the real speed can only run stable on 2200+ speeds..

im thinking i was shipped the wrong CPU.. now i can't send it back cause it's too late, and the assholez @ asus said it was just cause i need to update the bios to the new one cause the cpu wasn't supported yet.. but when i ran a few tests with Sandra soft... it showed that the max performance of my cpu can go to 3000+ mhz

so now i basically paid for a 2800+ and have recieved a 2200+ is what i think.

Did you look at the label on your CPU? The speed is listed on it. Also, make sure the FSB jumper on your motherboard is set to 133/166 instead of "100 only". Mine was set to "100 only" when I received it. I'd check the jumper before pulling your heatsink off though.

Yeah, but the jumper only has 2 settings, "100 only" and "133/166". Think of the 133/166 setting as unlocking the FSB so it can be any value that the bios supports. The 1002A BIOS seems to be great so far.

Is this a Barton core or a Tbred? If it's a T-bred, it sounds like maybe he's running at 13.5x133 (1.8 GHZ a.k.a. 2200+) when he should be running at 13.5x166 (2.23 Ghz AKA 2800+ T-bred)

To show as 2200+ speed on a 100 MHZ Bus, he would have to be 100 X 18.

<-----Insert witty sig line here.

Yes. This sounds like a FSB setting issue. When I got my Asus A7N8X Deluxe, the jumper on the mobo was already set to allow 133 or 166 (the manual says this is the default so it makes sense), but in the BIOS it was set to use 133. All I had to do was change it in the BIOS to use 166 and it detects my 2700+ just fine.

Version 1002A???? Is that older or newer than the bios on the ASUS website, I haven't seen any other version of 1002 so far.

There's a little blip about them a couple articles down on http://www.nforcershq.com/ and the download links for the 1002A bios are provided.

Rob, have you checked that jumper yet?

yeah, this is what's really puzzling me, the jumpers were fine, and yes i did check the cpu and it did say something like 2800k8 or something like that on it.. and when i ran Sandra soft test, it shown the CPU as being able to handle 3000Mhz +

I got the 1002A, but I didn't notice any differences, namely that the FSB spread spectrum cannot be changed from 0.5%, which is giving me overclocking troubles. I hope they fix this soon.

Rob, to clarify:

Is your problem that you can't get the system to run at 2800+ (2.25ghz with a 333fsb "166x2") or that you CAN get it to that speed but it is not stable?

I cannot run my Xp2800+ @ 166 - 333fsb... when i go into bios and switch to 166mhz and try to boot, ... i get as far as the Windows XP logo and then monitor goes black, and pc hangs... or sometimes may even reboot.

i can only run this PC succesful @ 133mhz FSB setting. therefore taking me to a 2200+.....
