Hello TH crew...
My son's 360 recent stop'd working, or least the video output did.
We swap out audio/video cables and that did fix it so I guessing there's something wrong with the pin-out.

Has anyone else seen this issue? The RED ring of death is not appearing...just no video output to the telly.

Appreciate any assistance...

Did this occur after downloading and installing the New Xbox Experience? Also, you're saying that the RROD is appearing? If it's getting the RROD then your system needs to be replaced and should still be covered by Microsoft's warranty. There have been some reports of the New Xbox Experience causing issues with the audio output, so I'd imagine a video issue is possible.

Sorry, I meant to type that the RROD is NOT appearing.
And nothing was downloaded. The video output just stopped.
Thanks.

Its possible that the video settings have been changed to something incompatible with your television / monitor - to reset them do the following...

1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn the console off.
3. Turn the console on.

(Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on) (by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller.)

4.Note Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper-left quadrant light is on.
As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time. This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it's OK when the Xbox 360.

The other thing to check is that someone hasnt moved the SD/HD selector switch on the AV lead....

will_chellam,
Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem.
Thanks though

Are you running HDMI or the Blue, Red, Green, plugs.

Or just the yellow one.

If its just the yellow one check if the SD/HD is in the SD mode.

Are all 4 of the red lights flashing? not the 3 red rings of death but all 4 rings flashing in time? If so there is no AV cable plugged in.

Are you getting sound?

If your getting sound but no video then it could be the cable.

Also... sorry but is the TV on the right input?

We're just using the Yellow (video) and red & White (audio) RCA cables.
There are no RROD. All rings are green.
Yes, we have audio, and we replaced the cable w/new. Same same.

Have tried on two different TVs too...same same

Thanks and plmk if you have any ideas.

I'm hoping to get some more suggestions and hopefully some resolution within the next 24 hours. Otherwise, there's a sale on Friday and I'll swallow hard and buy a new one.
Appreciate any assistance.

I called ms today and raised hell. They are doing the repair for free. I searched the internet all day today with no resolution except one person told me : (copy & paste)

know at the problem is the xclamps on your motherboard aren't holding down the heatsink for the gpu because the console gets hot and the motherboard flexes there is uneven pressure from the clamps and creates a space. you can replace these with newer stronger clamps. This also results in the 3ROD. They are pretty cheap and its easy to do. Check out amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] Repair%20K

I do not know if this is real or a guess.

Thanks, but I'm not getting the RROD indication. There just no video output to the monitor/TV.

its worth signing up here: http://support.xbox.com/support/en [...] p=register

login using your windows live account, or hotmail... then grab the serial number of the xbox and check to see if its under warranty, there is also a list of prices on that site that will give you an idea of the costs to get the xbox repaired, its a very quick easy service, i recently put through a RROD 360 and it took 1.5 weeks to send to germany(pre-paid) get fixed and delivered back to me :)

if its under warranty just send the 360 away, if not see if you can afford to get it fixed...

hmmf, still cant edit posts, if the cost is more than half a 360 in your area just bite the bullet and buy a new one, you can get them amazingly cheap now with a few extra games and a proper hdmi output.

This is the only real fix i know of, it was confirmed in another thread on THG to work as well. Ive not tried it myself but i might give it a bash on my older xbox.

you need to remove the hard drive first.second remove the the game out of dvd drive, third remove a a/v cable from xbox 360.
you need to overheat the system by turn the system on with no video cables hook up and use the towel trick wrapping 2 towels on xbox360 tight for 20 minutes and then turn off and unwrap the towels and let cool near a/c for 20 minutes, and plug in the a/v cable and turn system on and enjoy.Doing this will over heating the chipset inside the xbox 360 to factory defaults which you need to get video back online it`s like rrod but with out no video feed. And this also fixs rrod for a bit of time intill you get it repaired or replaced this will need to be done once in a while no every time you load it. Doing this does not mess with warranty b/c you never open it up.
I have fixxed my xbox 360 from rrod and no video with sound then i sent it back it`s been fine but i paid a price this cost nothing.
