Hi guys. check out this great site www.helpline4it.com and view hundreds of
articles of XP, Server 2003 and ISA Server along with IIS 5.0.

I've used WIN 98 many years but will be getting an XP system soon.

Thanks for the site Roberto. Anyone have other sites for new XP users?

Is XP's firewall any good?

Good idea - I must admit that I watched these NG very carefully and used
Google extensively when I first moved to XP (I'm still learning!). No, I'm
NOT simply suggest that you go away and use the search engines. Over a
period of time, I came across the various sites of the "big players" and use
them regularly now. I've seen other NGs which have a FAQ that is published
on a weekly (or thereabouts) basis by one of the reknowned experts in the
field. I know that this would be a pain to set up but wouldn't it be a
great idea for these XP newusers/beginners NGs? The FAQ increases in extent
occasionally if a particular topic crops up regularly.

Another thing which has struck me is that there seems to be several XP NGs
which are directed at the same group of individuals. For instance, my
initial impression is that MS.public.windowsxp.newusers and
MS.public.windowsxp.basics are aimed at the same folks. Is this correct or
are there some subtle differences? I know that there are many messages and
responses posted each day and personally, I would rather have all of them
posted in the same NG rather than have to look at more than one NG relating
to the same topic.

I hope I haven't trodden on anyone's toes by mentioning this.

They're very similar. My take is

newusers = any new user question from someone using Windows XP. Sometimes
see ribbing or "scolding" when a new user asks about third party software
but being referred to appropriate resources for specific questions (and
discovering how to find those resources) is a part of their learning
process. They're on the right track having found the newsgroups. The rest
will come with time.

basics = questions about basic XP features and tasks

Some questions overlap and show up in both groups. Some new users won't
know the difference and will post new user questions in basics.
Understandable and to be expected, in my opinion.

I think the kickers are:
"accessibility" for discussing Accessibility Options but more often find
questions about access: internet, file permissions, network, etc.

"help and support" for discussing XP's help file but instead the title is
taken literally and has evolved into a smaller version of
"windowsxp.general."
