no, the core is not unlocked - no matter what. you can unlock the clock multiplyer by joining the L1 bridges on the CPU die with an electrical circuit of sorts if you wished (using a circuit joining pen or something of the likes, available at an electricity store)

Really? I thought there was something about them being factory unlocked. Oh well, so its the same procedure as the palamino xps where you have to join the L1 bridges?
Dude, no core has been factory unlocked since (i believe) the K6 line of AMD processors. And yeah, you've gotta unlock the same good ol fashion way, heh.

Wrong. The new Thoroughbred B processors come factory unlocked, with all of the L1 bridges already connected. Im sitting here running a Tbred B 1700+ at 12.5x133 at less than stock voltage (AXP 2000+ speed).
You don't have to have an nforce 2 mobo but not every mobo will allow you to change the multiplier of a tbred b.All nforce 2's do as well as most kt400 boards and many kt333 but i don't think you can safely say that any (tbred b compatible) board will allow it AFAIK.(There are a whole lot of AFAIKs involved though if you know what i mean ).
no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]
