I've decided I do not want to be fighting the BIOS problems on the K7S5 board any more. Unless someone has a surefire fix for the BIOS reseting [at random].

I will be installing an XP2100.
PC133 - but will switch to PC2100 if I can't find a dual board. Memory prices seen to be down right now.
AOpen 300 watt PS.
Not overclocking or any other funky mods. For the kid - just stock.

I will be looking at 'tranmicro.com' hoping I can exchange / upgrade the 4 month old ECS board. Maybe they will give me credit or warrenty on the ECS.

Hoping to stay around the $80 to $120 range.

Anyone using these boards and what kind of performance are you getting?

ABIT KD7
EPOX 8RDA
GIGABYTE 7VAX
BIOSTAR M7VIT
MSI KT33 ULTRA2
MSI KT4 V-L
MSI K7N2-L

(BOZO1, would like your help on this also. Please call)

Thanks everyone.

The beauty of the K7S5A is that you could go with single or double data rate RAM. I know of no other board that has this feature. If you want a decent DDR board that's cheap I would go for the MSI 745 Ultra (6561) or the Asus A7S333. Both will outperform the K7S5A with DDR, are reliable as hell and dirt cheap. Actually, you could couple one of these boards with 256MB of PC2700 RAM and still be under $120.

Yea, I like Asus. I replace a A7A266 with a A7V333. The 266 sat around for about 6 months before I put it in a case. Don't know what happend but lost both the MB and a AMD 1.3 cpu. Not sure what went first and took out the other. But now at this point I was in a hurry for a board. Thats where the K7S5 came in. Had the memory - SDR stuff and the K7 supported it - and bought an XP2100. Now I am finding out the K7 is not so great.

Now my princess is the GRUMPY princess. And when she is not happy ...
