It still can't beat nForce2. There's no KT400 chipset for comparison, so it's not clear, how much faster KT400A is than KT400

I thought VIA was finally going to bring out something that could compete with nforce2, but this chipset is a p.o.s. Why would you buy KT400a when nforce2 is faster than it?

KT400 was littleslower than nForce2 in single channel in many benchmarks. Now it has tied with nForce2 at single channel more.

KT400 is unable to support 400 MHz FSB. Like nForce2, KT400A will suppot future 400 MHz FSB Bartons

Nforce 2 is slightly faster the difference is negligable. However the Via boards will be noticably cheaper than the Nforce boards.

I don't know why Anand didn't just say, "This chipset is a disappointment. VIA is still number 2 in AMD platforms."

No one seems to have a problem disparaging SiS 655 as unstable, and, if I remember correctly, most people labelled the first nForce as a bust, despite some increased functionality. Why not tell it like it is? With nForce2 motherboards offering averything except native SATA, many of which are available at under $100, with mature drivers, easy installation, guaranteed stability AND better performance, there is no compelling reason to buy a KT400A motherboard.

I have seen a lot of problems with the NForce2 chipset motherboards from Asus Crashing posted lately. I am not sold on it. This is especially true for non-XP operating system.

when you see smoke is that a good sign?

The reasons for problems with the ASUS nForce2:-

1) Most people doesn't know how to deal with this board

2) ASUS had some bad bios versions

3) Insane overclocking, the ASUS board is not that good for this job

Reasons for most problems with all nForce/nForce2 boards:

Use of Win98SE. You are sure to have nightmare experience with Win98SE if you have a nForce/nForce2 mobo. I own a nForce mobo and it works perfectly in WinME/Win2000/WinXP. This is completely false that you need to have WinXP to run a nForce/nForce2 without problems.
