OK, so I managed to finally get a HP Vectra 5/75 changed to a i90 processor just fine. I had been told that running that i90 at 66 ( instead of 60) X1.5 would clock it to 100 no problem.
So that's what I did. However, it did not boot properly the first time. bios tested the pc configuration just fine. It's windows 98 that's giving me trouble. First boot said "not enough extended memory to run windows" I didn't change any memory dangit! second boot said something about a missing himem.sys file. The third time I booted windows ran fine. Every time after that I kept getting "windows protection error..."
So what the heck is windows problem? the processor sure wants to run overclocked, the board can handle it too.
Windows is being the wet blanket at this overclocking party so what's the problem? strange how I get different results / errors when booting windows. please send me a private message I have a hell of a time trying to find my post in the regular forum. Thanks much.
