Excuse my ignorance, but what does 'OEM' mean. I see it everywhere I look for parts.

Am I right in thinking its the same components as normal you just don't get a fancy box like in a shop?

Thanks for any info.

oem- origional equipment manufacturer, it just means you dont get the extras or a fancy box. if you buy an oem hard drive you dont get screws or a cable. if you buy an oem video card, you dont get a cd with games or drivers, or a manual. in the case of cpus, retail gets you a "good enough" heat sink. oem you just get the chip.

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

Thanks that's cleared things up for me.

Now to check which components in my planned new system are oem and then and extra parts required.

Cheers
