i just finished world at war. and heres what i think.

the game sort of didnt felt quite right. because of the following reasons:

#1 the game felt pretty linear, i mean theres only just one straight line to go through and that straight line happens to be so narrow it chokes you up. and the wikipedia article mentioned the game being open ended, what a joke. theres only one way to finish the mission and if you dont get it right you'll end up retrying 100 times (e.g. destroying 4 artilleries @ reichstag)

#2 i played on hardest difficulty. never in any video game that an enemy AI hurls grenade at you like they're michael jordan. every grenade throw hits even at an almost impossible angle. now if only i can find a way to recruit those japs and nazis to my 2k9 franchise hmmm. it doesnt feel legitimate, it just dont feel right. especially the part on the cave, no matter what happens 2 grenades will fall under your feet the moment you walk a bit close to the exit.

#3 the FREAKIN TANK MISSION. woah, never in my gaming life did i experience being so vulnerable while im on a tank, since battlecity on the NES. especially with those footies with panzerrocketlaunchers sort of has a guiding system, they can hit you a hundred yards away when your silly turret tends to miss even when your crosshair turns red.

#4 lastly the game felt like any treyarch game, so many map boundaries. if it werent for gary oldman and the russian missions i wouldve walked back to the store and asked for a refund.

the good thing though is the multiplayer, i decided to go "sniper for life" on this game (recently rented "enemy at the gates" ).

all of this are good point there are stuff that i dislike ofcorse but CoD is simple FPS all that you need to do is to run and frag thats the beauty of this game thats why i like it,to run and to rape japanies with shotgun and see the blood splashes and there arms cut off if i wanted a Quest and shooter i would pick Fallout 3 not CoD.CoD always have been multyplayer oriented game thats why the games are often realy short you do the singlplayer and realy fast move to multyplayer where all the fun begins. My point is that you buy today CoD with multyplayer in mind so singleplayer doesnt metter so much.Same done with Warhead realy fast singlplayer and realy good multiplayer.

That tank mission sucked. Ruined the experience, i had to leave it a week and come back to it. Last mission is cool though....and <3 Flamethrowers!!

The tank mission isn't hard.

I agree it isnt hard. Its not authentic either, it feels different to the rest of the game. I loved pushing through the streets, dipping out of cover and the like - it felt like i was fighting a battle as part of a war, whereas the tank mission just played like a cheap arcade shooter. No strategy or thinking involved, just pop up over a hill or a ridge, squeeze off a few rounds and then backup to repair.
Its like they totally left the AI out of that mission....and as for the friendlies, they were bloody useless!

i agree on what you just said pr2thej. the tank tanked :( ... there were times when i just wanted to get out of it. i think i retried for like 20x on that mission.

i forgot to mention though that the Air Brigade was fun. I couldve saved more of my buddies out there, but i guess that how real war works (somebody will always be left behind).
