Hi, I'm having trouble running certain games in 1080p. I was hoping someone chould help me. I'm currently using a Radeon HD 4870 on a 32inch Sharp Aquos 1080p through HDMI. Valve games run flawlessly in 1080p, but I'm having problems with other games, like Gears of War and Devil May Cry 4 which run in 1080i. Games don't even offer you an option between 1080p or 1080i. Just 1080, and everytime it loads you have to hope it's in 1080p. You know whats really werid when I play the game in window mode it runs in 1080p.
When you say they run in 1080i, do you mean the graphics card is outputing an interlaced signal (can they even do that?) or your HDTV is deciding it's interlaced? Can you force the HDTV to use it as a progressive signal?
Valve games are not really graphical juggernauts. I play L4D split screen @ 1080p on a less than great machine and it runs just fine. Devil May Cry 4 is a beast as far as graphical processing and GoW is a port so it's going to have lower performance even it's not the same level graphics as other games.
As far as 1080i vs 1080p, I'm sure that has to do with what your TV is detecting the signal as. Personally my TV does not say 1080p, only 1080i if it is such or 1080 for everything else (including PC through the VGA connector which I do not believe is true 1080p). Anyways, are you even noticing a visual difference (other than performance) between when it says 1080i or 1080p?
I'm having resolution problems not performance. What I men't with Vavle games is I never get these problems. Just Gears of War and Devil May Cry 4. When I select 1920x1080 the screenloads into 1080i by it self. When it should be at 1080p everything else on my PC runs in 1080p I dunno why these 2 games don't. Sorry I'm really bad explaining this technical ****. Also it seems to be a very rare problem I have here. Which makes it suck even more.
With Devil May Cry 4, I figured out that if you set your refresh rate to 59hz "in game" it'll give the option for 1920x1080 and will run in 1080p. Still having problems with Gears of War though, there is no refresh rate options so I can't try the same thing. Any iedas?
