I have recently had an inclination to install Stronghold 1 and play through it again, and I want to know if anyone knows of a new castle/medieval combat game that is similar?

Before anyone says Stronghold 2, I must say that I don't like the way the single player campaign ran in that game.

Through my own research, I found a game called Castle Strike. But, it:

1. Wasn't released in the US.
2. The company's own website for the game no longer exists.

Further, it didn't appear to have the same "depth" in the limited reviews I found.

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Can't say I know of any new ones, but I used to play the original Lords of Realm like mad.

I didn't play Lord of the Realms until part 2, and I loved it as well. However, Stronghold 1 was better in all aspects (to me anyway) than it.

It comes from my desire to control the placement of Towers, walls, gatehouses, etc. (Instead of "upgrade the entire castle to the next level" )

The castles you can build in Lord of the Ring bfme2 are pretty fun. Its not going to be on the same level but theres a lot of other stuff going on to keep you occupied.
RTS rather than castle management though.

Only other one would be, when i recently asked for games like The Settlers, someone suggested Stronghold so maybe that works the other way around as well.

Stronghold 1 is the only one that comes to mind, don't know what they were thinking when they made the 2.

In my opinion, there is a Serious lack of a truly unique and in depth castle management game in the industry... Ive also continually went back to Stronghold 1 when I desire to build castles and manage them again, but it never even comes close to satisfying me...

I want to see peasants mastering skills and get better at doing things and eventually become specialists. I want to be able to place every brick of my castle with a large set of castle construction tools. And I also want to watch my peasents working in the ever growing quaries as stone is taken out, and watch them cart the stones to the masons and then move each brick piece by piece as they are constructed in my stonemasonries and place them in place... I want to see them build scaffolding to get to the heights I laid the walls or towers or whatever to be and have to go cut wood and craft the scafolding together as it grows taller, not just a graphic that loads as it gets taller...

And So much more... Am I asking to much? Its been driving me nuts for years, and Im concidering going back to college to learn game design just so I can make my Dream castle building and management game...

Anyways... LOL :bounce:

I would pay a premium for your game, towards $80, even if it had so-so graphics.
I asked essentially the same question that terr281 did on the Gamespot.com forums, and the only game that anyone could think of was Stronghold.
On a side note, what kind of games do those of you who like Stronghold also enjoy?
I dig:
Sim City 3/4(with essential mods)
Civilization 4
Anno 1404
the Total War franchise

I downloaded this game. Its very interesting, but I cant figure out how to build anything more then a meeting area and a farm plot... :fou: Even then, My farmer never does anything with it, Hes always listed as not working, and my fisherman just sits there and fishes all day but never returns with any food...

The only guy I can get to work properly is the wood cutter, but its pointless since I cant build anything... GRRR

No doubt.
If I kept all of the boxes of PC games I've ever purchased, my garage would not be able to store my cars.

But those seem to be the games that I keep coming back to once I beat the latest pretty graphics game.

I actually keep all the boxes for all my games so its easier to sell them later if I ever want to lol...

Well i finally figured out how to build and why my fisherman wasn't providing me with fish.. I had to build a fishery and train someone to be able to clean the fish. Turns out theres alot of sub-menus within all the differnt building options that took me a while to go over...

I am actually really starting to like this game so far. It would be Sooo much better if it had modern graphics with it, but other then that, I think that anyone looking for a decent castle sim game and if you have enough time to learn how to play this "Dwarf Fortress", You will definitely find some satisfaction from it... Perhaps even more then simply playing stronghold... There is a DEFFINENT learning curve for the game, but once you get the basics figured out, its really very interesting and detailed...
