I just did a clean install of XP on a second harddrive that I had. My
question now is how do I get the files from my Win98 harddrive over the XP
harddrive? I formatted the XP to NFTS and the 98 is fat32. I would prefer
not to copy everything to a cd then drag it over. The 98 operatoring system
is still in working condition on the first harddrive, I can boot off of
either one.
I have been reading that I can not get at these files, but I wanted to check
with you guys first. I certainly can slave the 98 harddrive up, but did not
really want to take things apart until I knew if it would work or not.

The NTFS files can read Fat32, so go to the windows command prompt in XP and
use XCOPY to copy the files you need from the first drive.

Thanks for the quick response. I will do that this afternoon.

Forgot to add, type CD\ to put you in the root directory after going to the
windows command prompt.

There's no need to do that. The Windows 98 drive remains
accessible and you can use the data files there whenever you want
to.
You can't run any programs there from within Windows XP (they
have to be reinstalled), but data is no problem.

Even better, go into Windows XP and use Windows Explorer to copy over
the files you need.
BTW, "NTFS" and "FAT32" are not file "types" - it's the way the HDD is
formatted. "NTFS" doesn't "see" FAT32, the Operating system does.
