Hi all

last night i finally got my radeon 9700 pro and removed the heatsink and fan and proceeded to carefully as i could to do the shim mod. It came off fairly easy and i didnt touch any of the little transistors on the gpu chip, but i did notice that on the green square that the gpu die sits on, on the very corner where i stuck my razor blade in to lift up the corner of the shim it scratched that green surface a bit... DId i destroy my new 640 dollar card? It is right on the very corner of the green plastic thing.

Also, what is the best drivers out (catalyst?) for my card? Where do i get them from? Has any one had any good experiences with a certain driver?

Also, I am using a swiftech waterblock to cool my card, so what is a decent average overclock for this card? Colud people please post a few of their overclocks just so i know

Thanks for all your time,

Rob

The reason I wasn't going to reply is I run a GF4 Ti not a 9700. As for the scratches most likely you've just nicked the surface and you have nothing to worry about. You might want to post a link with a picture of the damage if you want more opinions.

Yeah brobably that scratch shouldn't be a problem. I'm not quite sure what the op temp should be on that... especially if your overclocking... no probs... just make sure you clean it properly and apply even tension with the waterblock.. .and for god sake make sure your hoses are sealed... cause water will kill your card for sure.

To err is human... to really screw things up you need a computer!
