Coupla things. Most benches will show 4870 results on 4GB RAM and a faster CPU around 3.0GHz. Ofc if you are running 32 bit OS it doesnt make much difference anyway, save that it might run slightly faster in dual channel.
Also you got some PSU specs or is it generic?
Tried defrags / spyware / reinstall and patch and all that i assume.

Try running it at high (DX9) settings rather then highest settings, the game is a killer. And yes you CPU is holding you back you might want to think about overclocking.
ooooooh post mobo plx! Just wanna check the PCI's...
http://www.hardforum.com/showthrea [...] 943&page=2 check that post for an answer on power as well, your PSU splits its 12v rail, and most of it will be "trapped" and not reaching your 4870 therefore your beast of a card is underpowered.

If you jumped from a 9800GT to a 4870 and didn't see a performance gain, then your CPU is almost certainly a bottleneck. The PSU is also a possiblity though.
is there anything to measure to see if the cards getting enough juice? I was using a 500 watt supply with my 9800..should I try using that one for the 4870?
Its more about the rails than the watts. i like banging on about PSUs anyway, i think theyre hawt. gamerk316 is probably more accurate, theres no way id put a 4870 in with my 9500.
Link that 500w jobby anyway, lets have a look at it.

i had a 9500 phenom went from a 8800gt to a gtx 280 saw no performance gain at all. your cpu blows balls, i actually went out and bought a athlon 7750 and put in in the same socket. also my mobo only supported hypertransport 2.0. im building a new pc and selling the old one to my brother now, it was a gateway gt5674 is that the model you have?

Dont worry about the watts, the Antec is actually better by a looooong way.
Quality counts for a lot with PSU's and Rosewill are a bag of sheit whereas Antec are one of the finer manufacturers.
Overclock your CPU but dont take it above 2500 unless you know what your doing.
Generally though you are just plastering over the cracks, i would recommend that if this is a gaming PC you look to getting a cheap dual instead. You can get this cpu to 3.3ish with no noticeable loss considering it has 2 fewer cores. If thats too much then pick up a Brisbane for $50 or so.
You can eBay that quad, plenty of suckers out there that will buy one without researching

Found this on AMD's forums, this guys rig is very similar to mine.
Hey everyone I just made the switch over to ATI and bought a Sapphire 4870 512mb. I previously had an EVGA 8800 gt and was able to play FC2 on max settings @ 1440x900 with a very playable framerate. However, after installing my 4870 I get probably half the framerate with identical settings. Shouldn't the 4870 be able to eat this game for lunch? My specs are as follows.
Hello, I recently purchased a sapphire 4870 512 card and am only getting 10-25 fps @ 1440x900 with no aa or v sync. My system specs are:
Phenom 9500 @2.2GHZ
3GB DDR2 PC2-6400 240pin
720 GB (2 x 360) SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
600Watt PSU
ATI Saphhire 4870 512 MB
I see others saying they get 40+ fps with these kind of settings, Plz give your input
All of these suggestions and nobody seams to care that the OP has a CPU that is bottlenecking his GPU. That Phenom is great for proping up your desk or holding down important papers. The new P2s @ 3.0 will do you fine. Just about any current 3.0ish will do you fine. Anything less is and will bottleneck a 4870 even at the OPs resolution.

anymore input?
FC2 has alot of problems. It doesnt like most drivers and it hates ATI atm. Its not you its that super poor release of a game. I have already put mine away as it refuses to run decent on 2 machines.
Thank you, I am RMAing the card, sapphire said the cpu should be fine....but if the replacement does not work I'll probably get a phenom ii. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks for the advice.
When I said I updated, I at same time used the tlb fix for first time and pushed cpu to 2.4 on top of that. Frames jumped up quite a bit but not what I expected. I then tested without the cpu overclock, frames went back down to single digits. No matter what the resolution, things stayed the same.
I plan on getting a phenom ii this weekend and see how that goes. Hopefully this fixes all of my issues. If not I'm going to build an intel rig. Last chance AMD!!
And after updating my drivers and reinstalling the game, that's about exactly the same performance I got too.
The BEST thing you can do for that game is to go download the CCC 2.21 mod (with the ToD mod and realistic shadow option) and install it at Level 5, and run it in DX9. It looks BETTER than very high DX10 and I AVERAGE 37-38fps at 1440x900 with 8XAF and 0xAA at that point.
No joke, my average FPS went up a good 8-9 fps with that mod and it looks even better than Very High everything.
