So i just got a new pc with an 280 and i wanted to know how to get the physics working in UT3 with the new drives i know they have a level that can be used with this new driver and you can destroy everything so how do i do that ?
99% of the time Physx doesnt do anything but eat fps. 99% of the time you have to track down a physx driver seperately that supports your current driver version. The result is dont buy Nvidia for physx thats for sure.
lol ^^ physics works fine with the Nvidia drivers, but you need to download the Physics Map Pack for UT3 and your set.
So yeah I installed the game with the update and the physics map pack and now I just dont know how to start a game with these new physics (when i say game I mean map)
i was thinking about buying an ati card for this rig i built 3 days ago but then i read about a lot of people having driver problems on their atis and i passed.
@op.. U have to first update ur UT3 with some UT3 patch file, and then, make sure ur nvidia graphics divers are updated and u have physx enabled.. Then, install the map pack.. Start the game as usual.. Go to instant action and select the "capture the flag" menu. U shud be able to see 2 new maps called lighthouse physx and another called tornado physx (may not be exact name, but u shud see the physx name appea next to it.. Select it, and enjoy.. It works on my 8800GTS 320MB, so it shud work on urs..
@op.. Laptops usually are low-powered.. And u will be held back by your processor which is kinda slow for a fast-paced game like UT3.. BUT.. u wud still be able to play just fine with around medium settings.. (Physx on a single card is too demanding). Physx levels shud still be manageable once u play around and reduce some settings to medium or even low.. But, to answer ur question directly, YES it WILL work!!

The 4850 is a great card - slightly better than my 8800 before it.
Hoever, in our family we've gone through two 4850's and two 4870's in the past three months - all have subsequently been replaced with nVidia cards. The Sapphire 4870 driver issues (yes not strictly ATI's fault) and the 4850's unreliability has really put me off. One of the 4850's has crapped out after just a few weeks of playing Barbie Horse Adventures on my 7 year olds PC - hardly a difficult task! Back to nVidia for me
My Powercolor 4870 has been stable for 5 months now, never had a single issue with drivers, even in Windows7.
